The project explores the use of Love wave surface acoustic wave devices in combination with the E-effect for broadband detection of weak magnetic fields. Magnetic noise was determined in advance to be the largest limiting factor with regard to the detection limit. For this reason, a model is to be derived that describes the origin of this noise. Based on this model, low-noise magnetostrictive multilayer systems are to be developed and characterized for this sensor concept. In addition, the single-crystal and thin film-based SAW sensors are examined for their operating frequency, sensor design, and optimal working point.
