Particle tracking in bulk solids based on microwave multiple input multiple output systems (B01)

Subject Area Electronic Semiconductors, Components and Circuits, Integrated Systems, Sensor Technology, Theoretical Electrical Engineering
Term since 2020
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 422037413

B1 has the goal to derive a methodology to measure spatially and temporally resolved particle movement in bulk solids. This will be done based on microwaves with modulated frequency. The measurement system will consist of multiple, coherent transmitters and receivers. Depending on the spatial location and number of transmitters and receivers, the extension of the measurement zone can be adapted to the reactor size, which, in principle, will allow scaling to industrial size in the long term. Particles will be marked with frequency selective and transpolarising structures to allow for particle tracking. The marking of the particles allows for the parallel tracking of more than one particle in different frequency bands. In the first funding period a system will be developed which allows for simultaneous tracking of up to 5 particles.
