X-ray photonic structures for control of cooperative emission from resonant nuclei (C04)

Subject Area Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
Optics, Quantum Optics and Physics of Atoms, Molecules and Plasmas
Term from 2021 to 2024
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 429529648

We investigate Mössbauer nuclei embedded in nanoscale photonic structures to observe and control the cooperative emission of x-ray photons. We use highly brilliant x-ray sources like synchrotrons and x-ray lasers to study how quantum cooperative phenomena like super- and subradiance evolve from such structures as a function of photon multiplicity. We equally explore how the coupling of collective modes leads to quantum optical phenomena like electromagnetically induced transparency and measurement-induced entanglement. The theoretical description of this novel regime of quantum cooperative light-matter interaction will enable the design of tailor-made radiative properties for future applications in x-ray quantum optics.
