Subject Area
Art History
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 438577023
The project has two parts that focus on different topics – 1. “Popular Art History”; 2. “How to learn Seeing”. Both parts are divided into two work phases (archival research, discourse analysis). While the PI uses a wider approach and investigates on the grounds of his preparatory work the roll of “Popular Art History” in the visual culture of the early 20th century, the WiMi examines in detail the function and impact of “Cheap Images” (of the publishing house E. A. Seemann) in households and schools around 1900.
