The project "Digital letter edition: Hans Werner Henze’s network of artists", short: "Henze-digital", applies for the edition of selected correspondence of the important and internationally networked opera composer Hans Werner Henze (1926-2012), which are of interest for musicology, literature and contemporary history. The first compact module consists of Henze's correspondence with his librettists, who are authors of canonized rank. In Module 2, Henze's correspondence with his patron and sponsor Paul Sacher will be edited. "Henze-Digital" aims at a digital publication using XML-based TEI coding with recourse to their correspondence-specific forms of markup. It provides a scientifically annotated provision according to historical-critical standards in Open Access (including source texts), with metadata input into online letter databases as well as user-oriented material indexing through the provision of various filter and search functions as well as diverse forms of data networking for artwork-, personal- or subject-related data. The project is intended to provide new research perspectives on the composer's work for the Henze Year 2026, the 100th anniversary of his birth.
