Subject Area
Educational Research

Project identifier

As a result of global development, future challenges in social care can no longer solely be responded by nationally framed structures of support. Therefore, the Research Training Group focusses on the empirical analysis of transnational social support. Transnational forms of social support have hardly been analysed within social support research. The Research Training Group focusses on the analysis of transnational social support within the fields of transmigration and transnational organisations. Within these fields, it particularly concentrates on three research areas: transnational family care, transnational networks and transnational professional support. Following the main concern of social support research, it focusses on the analysis of how transnational social support contributes to strengthen people's agency. The topic of the Research Training Group is a systematic continuation of the long-running research cooperation between the Universities of Hildesheim and Mainz in the field of social work. Building on this collaboration, the aim of the Research Training Group is to establish an interdisciplinary scientific network of highly qualified junior scientists, preparing them for academic research into transnational social support as well as for the development of and collaboration in transnational networks and organisations.
