Numerous studies have demonstrated that extinction learning is context-dependent, but a clear definition of context remains elusive. Our goal is to achieve a mechanistic understanding of context at the neural level. Building on our findings that context results from learning rather than inherent stimulus properties, we will explore this phenomenon both behaviorally and neuro-physiologically. By investigating the network processes underlying the learning of a novel context, we aim to develop models and conduct causal tests to validate our results.
