The main objective of subproject A03 is to develop non-invasive methods to detect implant loosening in a differentiated manner and at a very early stage in order to avoid severe bone loss and thus improve conditions for the revision. The innovative concept provides a combination of two different methods: 1) Acoustic emission analysis will be established to characterise the fixation status of hip arthroplasties in conjunction with 2) rapid on-site detection of specific particles and biomolecules in body fluids using ion mobility spectrometry with electrospray ionisation, pyrolysis, and gas chromatographic pre-separation.
