Subject Area

Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 442261292
The project examines how state institutions segment their audience through inter- and intralingual translation to ensure semiotic accessibility. It observes which people are ascribed the need for translation, in which cultural layers of meaning this occurs and which social fields participate in this process. The project’s investigations are guided by the key question of the extent to which translation contributes to the levelling of cultural inequalities and/or to the creation of difference by attributing foreignness and deviance.
