Nerve terminals contain hundreds of synaptic vesicles that form tight clusters. Despite being held together, vesicles are highly mobile within these clusters, so that they can be recruited to the membrane upon neuronal activity, for exocytosis. However, little is known about the potential mechanisms of synaptic vesicle cluster regulation. To understand this, in this project, we will analyze the dynamics and regulation of synapsin-bound vesicles both in reconstituted systems and in primary hippocampal neurons.
