Project Details
Nanoscale Dynamics and Regulation of Synapsin Condensates (B10)
Subject Area
Molecular Biology and Physiology of Neurons and Glial Cells
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 317475864
Compelling evidence indicates that liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) organizes macromolecules into membrane-free compartments, as in the presynapse, where hundreds of synaptic vesicles form biomolecular condensates through the interaction with synapsins, a highly abundant family of synaptic phosphoproteins. We aim to determine the cause-effect relationship between condensate formation and local translation at the pre-synapse, as a function of synaptic activity and phosphorylation cycle.
