Investigations in Project A04 focus on the models that explainers and explainees have about a specific technical domain. In particular, the project considers models of technical artifacts that are described in terms of their architecture and relevance. An open question investigated in the project is how the technical model of the explainee is integrated into the partner model of the explainer and in what way this integration process results in different practices of multimodal explaining that correspond to different forms of understanding. The aim is a dynamic model of explaining the properties of technical artifacts (architecture, relevance) to foster users’ agency.
