Light-Induced Homolysis (LIH) of 3d-Metal-Substrate Complexes as a Starting Point for Organic Reactions (A02)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 444632635
Light-induced homolysis (LIH) of metal-substrate complexes is promising for the generation of radicals, which are mostly utilized to initiate hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) processes. In this project, we will systematically explore—supported by computational chemistry, machine learning, and spectroscopy—(a) new metal-ligand combinations that promote LIH-processes beyond HAT, and (b) new catalysts that address the reoxidation of the catalyst avoiding stoichiometric oxidants. Furthermore, we will leverage the complementarity of MLCT, LMCT, and HAT processes, which generate the same radical intermediates but show different reactivity due to their interaction with photocatalysts.
