Project Details
Photocatalysis with Reversibly Coordinating Metal Complexes (A03)
Subject Area
Organic Molecular Chemistry - Synthesis and Characterisation
Term
since 2021
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 444632635
Photoinduced ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT) in cerium, bismuth, iron, and other metal complexes facilitates the generation of radicals for synthetic transformations and mechanistic studies. A key breakthrough involved nickel-ion assemblies with nucleophiles, leading to predictable cross-coupling between nucleophiles and both arenes and heteroarenes. Future work will focus on adaptive coordination mixtures under photochemical conditions, substituting nickel with copper, cobalt, and iron salts, and exploring the oxidative addition of low-valent metals to activate C–H, C-O, C-N, and strained C-C bonds.
