The objective of the project is to study the selective agglomeration of various valuable minerals (EnAM) in a suspension of a crushed slag phase. Selective agglomeration is based on the differences in wetting properties of the suspended particles and agglomeration kinetics. The resulting agglomerates can then be separated from the rest of the suspension by sieving. In this second phase of the project, the focus will be on the investigation of interparticle interactions between different EnAM crystals and binding liquid droplets using FluidFM® measurements with respect to selective agglomeration. In conjunction with the selection of suitable binding fluids, the wetting properties must be adjusted by changing the pH value and the use of surface-active substances or complexing agents to agglomerate a specific EnAM with high yield and purity. This methodology should be further developed and optimized to support selective agglomeration for all types of slags containing various valuable minerals. Based on these results, a phenomenological model for the selective agglomeration of EnAM will be developed.
