Microglial IL-10 and Csf1r dependence - harnessing mouse models to decipher microglia biology

Subject Area Anatomy and Physiology
Term since 2022
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 500215759

As the resident macrophages of the brain, microglia critical contribute to development and maintenance of brain functions. Mouse models have provided in depth insights in the unique developmental origin of these cells, their maintenance by self-renewal, and discrete activation patterns. In our proposal we will harness newly developed mouse models to investigate two unique microglia features that have been associated with pathologies. Specifically, we will focus on microglial dependence on the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10 and on signals of the growth factor receptor Csf1r. In depth insight might help the future development of microglia targeted therapies.
