Hamiltonian dynamics of surface deformations (B09)

The goal of this project is to investigate the dynamics and structure of Hamiltonian flows induced by geometric quantities on deformation spaces of surfaces. We focus our attention on questions concerning the dynamics, geometry, and asymptotic behavior of Hamiltonian flows associated to geometric functions and symmetries of character varieties with respect to the natural symplectic form. The main goal is to relate the structure of these flows to the topology of curves and graphs on surfaces. In turn, this will shed light on the geometry and dynamics of these flows.
