Project Details
Establishing a Core Unit for Research and Treatment for patients with antibody-mediated neurological diseases
Subject Area
Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Term
since 2023
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 504745852
The Z project aims for providing the administrative and structural framework to efficiently coordinate and run the many experimental and clinical activities of BecauseY. It represents the central feature of the proposed university-based Core Unit for Research and Treatment in Berlin as a unique comprehensive center for diagnosing and treating antibody-mediated neurological diseases. This core unit will be strongly interconnected with all subprojects, facilitate the exchange of concepts and provide infrastructural support. Medical staff will not only coordinate the entire path of CRU-associated patients through the hospital, but will also cover the individual antibody-mediated disease from early diagnostics to interdisciplinary work-up of the case (e.g. in the Neuroimmunology Board) to innovative individualized therapy. It will care for patients with all forms of antibody-mediated neurological diseases, such as autoimmune encephalitis, antibody-mediated dementia, neuromuscular disorders, neuromyelitis optica, developmental disorders related to autoantibodies, neuropsychiatric rheumatoid diseases, immune-mediated psychoses and antibody-related neuropathies.
