The geometry of moduli spaces of differentials is connected to a number of seemingly distant parts of mathematics, ranging from dynamics to spaces of stability conditions. Our primary goal is to compute the top intersection number of the tautological bundle over those moduli spaces of differentials, which is a key player for various questions concerning the geometry of these spaces. Applications are to spaces of differentials with residue conditions, but also to Masur-Veech volumes and the topology of moduli spaces of differentials
