SFB 293:  Mechanism of Inflamation: Interaction of Endothelen, Epithelen and Leukozyts

Subject Area Medicine
Biology
Term from 1996 to 2008
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5476432

The objective of this collaborative research centre is to analyze the mechanisms of inflammation beyond the immune system. In the two project areas the interaction between blood leukocytes and endothelium on the one hand, and between blood leukocytes and epithelium on the other, will be investigated. It is obvious that there are also interactions between endothelium and epithelium in so far as cytokines which are released by activated endothelium directly effect the epithelium and vice versa. Interactions of both cellular systems have been proven by results of the first research period of the collaborative research centre. It is expected that these results will generate new working hypotheses for chronic inflammatory diseases which are unknown in its pathomechanisms.
