The immunoproteasome is a specialized type of proteasome that is important for selecting and priming of CD8+ T cells. It is thus key for the establishment of self-tolerance, anti-viral and autoimmunity. We will here analyze the regulation of the immunoproteasome by maternal immune activation (MIA) in response to stress and infections and how this will impact anti-viral immune responses in the pregnant host, immune priming in the foetal thymus and development of tolerance in the offspring.
