The goal of the project is the optimization of preoperative planning for living donor liver transplantations and the exploration of regeneration patterns after transplantation. Based on the findings of the ongoing project and new imaging technologies, main focuses of the project are: (1) the assessment of regeneration regarding morphology, angiogenesis, revascularization of intrahepatic vascular systems and the growth of liver and territorial volume, (2) the development of a model for advanced risk analysis including the prediction of revascularization for the hepatic veins, (3) the investigation of new imaging modalities and contrast media, and (4) the development of new planning tools for state-of-the-art and new image data including the automation of methods for the evaluation of potential donors and the optimization of algorithms for extraction of bile ducts and hepatic arteries.
