Long-term remission in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) remains rare. Our data show that the entry and exit of T cells from the inflamed intestine is crucial to regulate mucosal immune responses. Targeting the checkpoints affecting the recirculation and residence of T cells could promote remission. We therefore aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that control intestinal T cell egress in homeostasis and inflammation. In addition, we also study how regulatory T cells leave or remain in tissues, and optimize their migratory behavior to induce long-term remission in IBD.
