Project Details
Vascular multi-cellular circadian networks as a modulator of stroke progression (A05)
Subject Area
Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 548585053
This project examines how circadian clocks in endothelial, mural, and neuronal cells modulate stroke progression and outcomes. Using genetic mouse models, single-cell transcriptomics, and clock gene knockouts, the project investigates how circadian disruption—such as light exposure at night—affects infarct size, vascular tone, and blood–brain barrier function. It aims to uncover core circadian mechanisms that determine vulnerability to stroke and evaluates whether restoring circadian integrity can serve as a novel therapeutic approach to improve stroke recovery.
