Project Details
Skull–meninges connections in post-stroke neuroinflammation (B03)
Subject Area
Molecular and Cellular Neurology and Neuropathology
Term
since 2026
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 548585053
This project investigates the functional relevance of skull bone marrow in post-stroke inflammation and recovery. It focuses on skull–meninges connections (SMCs) as routes for immune cell migration from skull marrow into the brain. Using tissue clearing, spatial transcriptomics, barcoded viral tracing, and adoptive transfer, it maps the contribution of skull-derived immune cells and targets key regulators such as CXCR2, Nur77, and TREM1 to assess whether modulating this immune circuit can improve stroke outcomes.
