The westem part of the Eger Rift is known for geodynamical and geological phenomena such as the occurrence of earthquake swarms, CO2 gas emanations of lithospheric mantle signature, Tertiary/Quaternary volcanism and neotectonic faulting. The research project aims to the evaluation and detection of the characteristically structural settings and geometry of resistivity distribution of the Cheb Basin/Eger Rift subsurface with a target depth of 4-5 km. We will carry out a large scale DC geolectrical experiment with a field layout, which will cover the Novy Kostel swamn earthquake epicenter area and the zone of forced degassing of magmatic CO2 around the mofette fields of Hartoušov and Bublák. The experiment will include both DC geoelectrics and SP (spontaneous natural potentials) measurements. The goal is to evaluate and to outline regions/zones of anomalous electrical resistivity as well as to delineate prominent geoelectric structures associated with seismological and fluid related features. Variations of the electrical conductivity structure may reflect structural changes in the upper crust which control the uprise of magmatic fluids in the geodynamic active area. The results will assist the selection of adequate ICDP drilling locations in the Eger Rift from the sight of geoelectric rock properties.
