Zeolite L crystals are interesting for assembly of nano- and microsystems to larger functional entities due to their great potential for hierarchical supramolecular organization of various guest molecules. Following our successful studies on the chemical surface modification of zeolite crystals and their optomechanical assembly by holographic optical tweezers (HOT), we will use light as an integral assembly tool in the third funding period. It will not only be a means for optomechanical structuring, but also a tool for photochemical bonding towards construction of novel zeolite polymer hybrid (organic, inorganic, metal) materials and assemblies including polymeric Janus particles and diatoms. Moreover, light will be the target functionality, leading to applications in sensing, information processing and biomedical photonics.
