F. Ellerman detected approximately 100 years ago strong brightenings in the wings of the hydrogen line Hý in the solar spectrum. The phenomenon was called after him Ellerman bombs. It is assumed that they are caused by reconnection of magnetic fields near evolving solar activity regions. They thus represent a paradigm of magnetic dynamics in astrophysics. It is intended to actually prove, via (quasi) simultaneous measurements in Hý and in magnetically sensitive lines, the reconnection mechanism. The observations shall be taken with the German Vacuum Tower Telescope at the Observatorio del Teide/Tenerife. The data will be analysed with speckle.
