(The role of stem cell circulation in trauma) sets forth the hypothesis that different stem cell populations (haematopoietic, endothelial, mesenchymal) are mobilised upon trauma/fracture by distinct biological mechanisms, and contribute significantly to regeneration after trauma. Mechanistic analysis will define blunt chest trauma-induced changes in stem cell niches regarding function and mobilisation as well as the underlying role of the SDF-1/CXCR4 and EGFR-Cdc42 axes. Specific pharmacological modulation will clarify whether mobilisation is beneficial for bone regeneration after trauma, and whether enhancing mobilisation of stem cells can further augment the beneficial effects.
