The pantropical angiosperm family Ochnaceae comprise 33 genera and approximately 550 species, occurring mostly in savannas and moist tropical forests. Based on an unprecedented extensive sampling (253 spp. of Ochnaceae) we developed a set of baits covering about 660.000 bp from 275 nuclear genes, which were used for the targeted enrichment based on all but one genus and 254 species (1 sp. outgroup). Using this novel dataset we resolved the phylogenetic backbone of Ochnaceae, including that of Ochninae, and established new relationships and provide a genus and tribe concept for the family. Additionally, plastome reads were extracted from the raw data and mapped to a de novo generated plastome pseudoreference. In this way a plastome-based analysis of up to 214 species representing all major phylogenetic lineages could be accomplished. Nevertheless, all working steps could be performed and extensive nuclear and plastome sequence data retrieved and analyzed. In spite of the substantial delay, the project was to our judgement successful and also essential for us to establish NGS-methods, which we have in the meantime successfully applied also in other systematic groups.
