Bioactive peptides in normal and compromised hematopoiesis (B02)

Subject Area Cell Biology
Hematology, Oncology
Term from 2017 to 2021
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 316249678

Extracellular peptides are most likely involved in the regulation of hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) function in the bone marrow (BM) and might be dysregulated in aberrant hematopoiesis and development of cancers. In support of this, preliminary results demonstrate (I) that the endogenous CXCR4 antagonist EPI-X4 mobilizes HSCs, a process not only involved in normal hematopoiesis, but also cancer and (I) that peptide fragments of osteopontin (OPN) are associated with the regulation of aging HSCs. The project aims at understanding the role of EPI-X4, OPN and other endogenous peptides in the process of normal and compromised HSC function.
