(In)variable resumption in relative clauses: Spanish compared to other Romance languages (D03 {ehem. C09})
Subject Area
Individual Linguistics, Historical Linguistics
Term
since 2022
Project identifier
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 317633480
This C09 follow-up project investigates limits of variability in Romance relative resumptive constructions (RES) focusing on referentiality and syntactic ambiguity, on the one hand, and stigmatization (despite historical use) and normative pressure, on the other. By comparing human and Large-Language-Model-based acceptability judgments, it examines whether human-machine interactions amplify normative biases against non-standard forms. By combining cross-linguistic corpus data, multiscalar acceptability judgment data, and AI analysis, D03 aims to isolate social and grammatical constraints on RC variation.
