SFB 365:  Environmetalfriendly Drive Technology for Vehicles

Subject Area Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term from 1993 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5478863

Aim of the collaborative research centre 365 is simulation, layout and realisation of the Autark Hybrid, a hybrid car concept with the aims of saving fuel, reducing exhaust gas and providing a zero emission driving mode in urban areas. The car is designed to work independently from public power supply. Beyond fuel consumption also total energy balance is taken into account. The Autark Hybrid's drive line contains a diesel and an electric engine. Electric engine is supplied by a traction battery. Both engines are connected to the input shaft of a continuously variable i²-gearbox. Core component of the gearbox is a CVT chain drive. By means of a power shift process ratio range of CVT chain drive can be used twice. Thus i²-gearbox has a wide spreading. A special hydraulic system supplies the CVT chain drive and the clutches performing the power shift process with high pressure oil. Powerline management is done by a main controller communicating via CAN-Bus with several component controllers. According to an operation strategy the engines and the gearbox are operated with high efficiency. After simulation and layout of the powerline, optimization and realisation of the components, the Autark Hybrid is implemented, tested and investigated in test vehicle and on test rig.
