Injuries and diseases of the musculo-sceletal system are one of major disorders beside cardiovascular disorders. Any human being suffers from injuries during his lifetime. The population is aging resulting in increased importance of posttraumatic degeneration and impairment of functions. Depending on the extent of trauma injuries may cause different sequelae. Aim of the Clinical Research Unit is to evaluate the mechanisms of early posttraumatic inflammatory response depending on different types of trauma. The research focus is based on cell biology in trauma models as well as in clinical studies of patients. The aim is to analyse the inflammatory response in order to develop new therapeutic algorithms in order to minimise the sequelae of trauma.
