SPP 468:  Quantenkohärenz in Halbleitern

Subject Area Physics
Term from 1995 to 2001
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5457913

In the priority programme "Quantum Coherence in Semiconductors" the coherence properties of crystal electrons, their dephasing and relaxation are investigated by ultrafast-pulse spectroscopy. Because band electrons can be scattered rather easily, the coherence of the quantum mechanical waves lasts often only a few tens or hundreds of femtoseconds. Time-resolved femtosecond spectroscopy in the form of four-wave mixing and differential transmission spectroscopy allow to investigate these phenomena experimentally. Non-equilibrium many-body theory and non-markovian quantum kinetics allow to analyze these effects theoretically. Coherent interband polarization with phonon and plasmon oscillations, collective current oscillations (Bloch oscillations) in superlattices, spatio-temporal aspects of coherence, and the coherence in exciton and spin systems are part of the investigated topics in this priority programme. About thirty experimental and theoretical research groups participate in this research activity. This priority programme is marked by the many intensive cooperations of experimental and theoretical groups.
