SPP 732:  Innovative rechnerunterstützte Konstruktionsprozesse

Subject Area Mechanical and Industrial Engineering
Term from 1995 to 2002
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5466022

From the definition of requirements to the detail design phase the design process is characterised by many iterative loops. Especially during the phase of embodiment design the dependencies between geometry and material require the interaction of design and calculation. The demand for shorter product development requires a cross-linked and interactive product development process. A sequential approach ist not effective. The priority programme "Innovative Computer-Aided Design Processes" investigates the integration of embodiment design and calculation. It aims at new concepts of bi-directional or cross-linked interactions between CAD- and analysis software during all phases of the design process. The research projects focuses on linking design and embodiment design methodologies, calculation and information technology. Method-oriented and object-oriented approaches are applied to cover the width of the research topic and to support the designer at a general flexible level, as well as a concrete exemplary level.
