Over the last years, Visual Communication has firmly established itself as an internationally recognized field. The first phase of the Priority Program "Visual Communication". Theoretical, Empirical, and Applied Perspectives (ViCom) has played a key role in shaping this development. Indicators highlighting both the progress of Visual Communication as a discipline and ViCom's significant contribution include - to name only a few - numerous publications, extensive participation in peer-reviewed conferences and workshops, diverse outreach activities, and successful career advancements of early-career researchers. The coordination project has effectively supported researchers within ViCom and fostered collaborations with external scholars working on related topics. A range of targeted measures has been implemented, such as networking programs, early-career support, gender equality initiatives, and accessibility for deaf researchers. In the second funding phase, the scientific objectives remain broadly the same, aiming to further investigate the special features and linguistic significance of different components of visual communication. Central measures will include the continued development of robust cognitive and formal linguistic theories, as well as empirical methods tailored specifically for visual communication research. Coordination activities will focus on refined administrative structures, the establishment of a centralized methodological framework, enhanced professional development and theory workshops, and intensified support for early-career researchers. These measures aim to ensure ViCom remains at the forefront of the field and continues to provide a collaborative, innovative research environment.
