SPP 1062:  Handhabung hochdisperser Pulver

Subject Area Thermal Engineering/Process Engineering
Term from 1998 to 2005
Project identifier Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) - Project number 5469121

While handling highly dispersed powders problems result due to the fact that properties of such particle systems are dominated by surface phenomena and particle interactions. It means that well-known techniques of the mechanical process technology using more especially mass dependent effects are no longer applicable. By the term "handling" all the process steps between the powder preparation and a final application of such powders for processing high quality products are summarised, especially steps like conditioning, mixing, transportation and storage of highly dispersed powders. Such powders are characterised by high values of the specific surface area, with other words, the powder system is far from its thermodynamic equilibrium state leading to a high tendency to stabilising the powder system by phenomena like aggregation, agglomeration, adsorption as well as chemical reactions. The aim of this priority programme is to investigate these phenomena in order to dominate them and to develop techniques for their controlling.
